Joaquim Cabot García, MD, Ph. was born in Barcelona in 1961 in the bosom of a family of traditional medical vocation, residing in the city since olden days. He studied for his Medicine and General Surgery degree, obtaining an outstanding grade, at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He specialised in Ophthalmology at the University of Barcelona as a Resident Intern Doctor at the Clinic Hospital, which he completed in 1990. He studied oculoplastics at the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London with Dr. J.F.Collins, specialist of worldwide renown. His Doctoral Thesis on “Congenital malformations of the nasolacrimal duct” was presented at the Anatomy Chair of the Autonomous University of Barcelona under the supervision of professor J.M. Doménech Mateu with cum lauden. qualification. His professional curiosity takes him to Dr. José Ignacio Barraquer in America to learn the basics of Refractive Surgery in 1992.

During the 90’s he combined the practice of national health medicine at the Hospital Clínic, the Hospital del Mar and the Hospital Parc Taulí, with his private practice. In the year 2000 he created his own surgical centre, the IOCAB Institut Oftalmològic de Cirurgia Avançada de Barcelona, located at calle Ganduxer in Barcelona and in 2004 the OFTALMOPLUS centre for the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease at the Rambla Cataluña in Barcelona.

Dr. Cabot is a member of the Societat Catalana de Oftalmolgia (Catalan Ophthalmology Society), the Sociedad Española de Oftalmología (Spanish Ophthalmology Society), the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and its American counterpart the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
His professional interest lies in the development and implementation of new techniques of phacoemulsification cataract surgery, within which he has been a pioneer by instigating outpatient surgery under topical anaesthetic. Likewise, he has also co-participated in the development of refractive surgery with excimer laser.

Highlights its job as medical director in the surgical center IOCAB Institut Oftalmològic de Cirurgia Avançada de Barcelona, one of the first centres to initiate personalised technology in laser treatments based on aberrometry. It has also been at the forefront of presbyopia correction with the implantation of intraocular multifocal lenses for more than 10 years. Likewise with retro-iridian lenses for the correction of myopia, which it has been implanting since their beginnings, in ‘98.
