• Treatment of Cataracts A cataract is the opacity of the crystalline lens. At
Oftalmoplus we are pioneers in
cataract surgery techniques through a small incision with topical anaesthetic, without the need to be admitted into hospital and without needing to cover the eye. Functional recovery is very quick, with the patient being able to return to normal, everyday activity.
The technique we use is phacoemulsification. It basically consists in aspirating the cataract with ultrasound or pressurised water. It is carried out using a surgical microscope and high precision instrumentation. Once the cataract has been removed, an artificial crystalline lens is introduced which is a flexible folded lens which unfolds inside the eye permitting clear vision.
This technique is performed on an outpatient basis, in other words, hospital admission is not required. The patient walks him or herself in and out of the operating theatre and can go home 20 to 30 minutes after the intervention.
In addition, we can take advantage of the cataract intervention to
correct myopia, hypermetropia or astigmatism. We can also correct the need to use glasses due to eyestrain.
• Treatment for presbyopia
The inability of the eye to focus on nearby images because it cannot modify the curve of the crystalline lens is called presbyopia. Until now the solution consisted in using nearsighted glasses, contact lenses or implanting multifocal lenses.
There are different forms of treatment, all of them available at our Clinic:
1 -Through the same surgical technique employed for cataracts.
Instead of implanting a monofocal lens, we use a latest generation multifocal one such as the Acrysof Restor which, as well as resolving the cataracts, also corrects eyestrain defects.
With the Premium Restor Vision treatment, the intervention would be performed with the latest technological advances, such as the INFINITI system – which includes the exclusive water micropulse technology – and involves the implantation of a Restor multifocal lens which will enable you to once again see clearly at any distance and, in the majority of cases, make do without glasses. Only a small number of people, and for very specific activities, require the help of simple near-sighted glasses.
